Regional Predictions ?
All regions—except for the South—expect month-over-month decreases around 200 bps and mixed performance relative to last year. The Great Plains region predicts the largest decrease in year-over-year performance, consistent with trends observed over the last several months. Impacts of earlier-than-usual winter weather in the Midwest and Northeast will continue to be monitored and explored throughout the season.

National Profitability Predictions
Nationally, December is predicted to be a strong month, with both operating margin and EBITDA up 55 to 196 bps year over year, respectively. Although the year-over-year predictions are quite favorable, the month-over-month prediction is unfavorable, likely owing to very strong performance in the prior month. Once again, the predicted improvements in EBITDA outweigh the predicted improvement in operating margin, likely pointing to increased levels of depreciation being budgeted for previously expended capital.

Bed Size Predictions
From a bed-size perspective, all cohorts anticipate year-over-year increases, although the smallest bed size predicts less optimistic growth. Smaller hospitals also predict generally unfavorable EBITDA margins as compared with last month, again likely due to the unusually strong performance in October.
