Dear Readers,
Welcome to the January Issue of the National Hospital Flash Report. This month we explore performance from the end of the calendar year and also fiscal year for many of our subscribers. December demonstrated unfavorable month-over-month declines in profitability, while still outperforming last year ever so slightly. Volume and revenue KPIs were strong, but expenses demonstrated a number of unfavorable issues, with several of them potentially as a result of inaccurate budgeting.
In this month’s Spotlight, we continue our exploration of the ‘Goldilocks Zone’ of budgeting and dive deeper into the factors that drive accurate versus inaccurate budgeting. We also demonstrate a simple predictive model that can be used to increase the accuracy of revenue budgeting.
In a couple of weeks, we will be releasing a comprehensive review of 2018 year end supplement to the National Hospital Flash Report including trend-lines and key insights of the current and future state of hospital performance.
We appreciate your continued readership as we’ve grown tremendously in the last several months and look forward to introducing some new features in the upcoming months based upon your feedback.
Thanks,
Jim Blake
